So, a bag is the most common package in the segment of dried quick-cooking soups, i.e. it accounts for over 90% of sales. Portion quick-cooking meals and broths are mostly sold in packages suitable for warming-up in a microwave oven. Hard packing is leading the pack on the market of quick-cooking vermicelli and noodles (trays and glasses). Noodles in a soft package are positioned in an economy-segment. Experts consider the cardboard packing inside of which a tray sealed with polyethylene film is placed to be most promising. (Moe delo, 2007, issue 6) Russia: 160 companies produce package corrugated cardboardAbout 160 big and small enterprises produce package corrugated cardboard and packing in Russia, according to branch statistics data. Production of corrugated cardboard boxes has been constantly increasing for the past eight years: it made up about 800m sq m in 2000, 1,500m sq m in 2003, 2,250m sq m in 2006. (Tara I Upakovka, May 2007, issue 2) Russia: Import will decrease on the market of filmThe share of import products on the Russian market of rigiflex packaging will reduce to 30 percent in the next years, according to the experts’ estimates of "Dmitrov plant of rigiflex packaging". At present about 40 percent of market falls on it. The reduced share of foreign players will be connected with the superior quality of films of Russian manufacture. Experts of the plant regard territorial proximity to the consumer as one of the extra advantages of Russian manufactures. The main suppliers of rigiflex packaging to Russia include India, Turkey, Taiwan, Korea, Finland, Italy and West European countries. (PakkoGraff, May 2007, issue 2 ) Russia: Producers of sauces increase demand for PETAccording to estimation made by Protei (a company producing PET-packaging of different types), the demand for PET-packaging increases on the part of producers of different sauces and dressings. Such situation results in many respects from high cost of glass jars. Growth of the demand on the part of producers of granulated drinks was also observed. Coffee and other drinks are traditionally supplied in PET-packaging mainly from Eastern Europe, but owing to production costs increase in those countries the demand for PET-packaging produced in Russia is growing. Appearance of new types of domestic packaging in 2007 is forecasted. The demand for foil-clad polymeric membranes for PET can lids increases on the part of producers of food products as well. (Tare and packaging) Russia: Demand for packaging materials growsAccording to forecasts of experts, the demand for hard plastic packaging materials will grow in Russia by 2009 by 35%, for flexible packaging materials — by 28%, for packaging cardboard and paper — by 22%. As of today, the Russian market of packaging materials and equipment is estimated in US$ 8 billion, which is only 1.85% of the world level. About 600 producers of flexible packaging materials operate in Russia. The market of low-price flexible film is overstocked, but only 10% of players in the market are able to produce modern coextruded films and laminates. Europe: European prefer paper packagingIPSOS research center, which is the second largest in the world among institutes studying market condition, questioned 6500 consumers from 7 European countries. It was found out upon the results of questioning that 9 of 10 consumers prefer to buy products packaged in paper rather than plastic tare. The target group consisted of 48% men and 52% women, who were represented equally in different age groups: from 18 to 34, from 35 to 54 and over 55. It should be pointed out that 93% of questioned persons pointed out that they prefer paper because of its environmental friendliness, whereas 87% chose paper packaging for «practical» reasons (for example, it is opened easier). Nearly 80% of questioned persons pointed out that paper is «more pleasant to the touch» and «easier to handle», whereas 78% underline «significance» and «peculiarity» of paper label placed, for example, on bottles for drinks. Russia: Prices for raw materials for production of packaging are growingAccording tovexperts, prices for raw materials for production of packaging of corrugated cardboard in Russia continue to grow. From the very beginning of this year price of raw materials for packaging was increased three times. The price increase in October, 2006 only at Arkhangelsk pulp and paper mill (PPM) was 20%, the same at Kotlas PPM was 13% and at Syktyvkar PPM it was 16%. Experts believe that the main reasons of permanent price increase is excess of demand over supply and the lack of competition at the Russian market of raw materials. Now the portion of raw materials in the cost price of a ready package is over 60-80%. As a result of that, Russian producers of packaging have to reduce profitability of their business or increase prices for their products as well. Russia: The “Danaflex” will increase the manufacture of flexible packetsIn the next future the company “Danaflex” — one of the most important national manufacturers of the flexible packing materials — is planning to increase the volume of manufacturing the packing with flexographic print up to 1,5 thousand tones every month. Already before the end of 2006 there is expected the growth of monthly production up to 800 tones in comparison with 650 tones at the present time. Furthermore, the company is planning to acquire an equipment for deep print. Russia: The “Repack” offers new kinds of packingThe company “Repack” represents novelties on the market of packing and label. In particular, the company produces “retort—packets” made of special multiplayer films and serving instead of tins — the useful life of products in such kind of packing reaches two years. The “retort—packets” can be provided with zip—fastening which permits to keep the taste and aroma qualities of packed products, or with a batcher—connection with a cover. The English company “Look What We Found” brought on the market a series of soups and quick cooking dishes which are made of high quality products, delivered by local farmers. Having the desire of emphasizing this fact, the manufacturers decided to act in the following way: to produce on the package the photos of the farmers, the interesting facts about the harvest and from the agricultural sphere, as well as some recipes of tasty dishes of quick cooking. The stable package of doy - pack type is destined for 250 grams of products. The company Crown Food Europe was rewarded for an innovative packingThe package “with a slender waist” for the foods with low calorie content, presented by the company Crown Food Europe – a subdivision of the holding Crown Holdings – got the main prize of the British package competition UK Packaging Award — 2006 in the nomination “Metallic package”. A package for foods, whose form reminds the sand—glass, was elaborated specially for the products line Crosse & Blackwell (one of the leading brands of the company Premier Foods). The unique form of package “with a slender waist” accentuates that it contains a useful product with low calorie content, and it is to be added that the container is composed of three parts, it can be opened easily and is covered with thermosetting film which permits to place on it the decorative elements. A standpack as a protection from microbesStandpack known under trademark of Tetra Wedge™ has antiseptic qualities. It has been developed by company Tetra Pak. Thus the buyers can easily find their favorite sauces in a new packing. It was reported by the president of ZAO Tetra Pak in Russia Igor Akimov in his interview given to the business-edition “Kommersant”. According to him, the Russian consumers are exigent for the product and for its packing — in Russia are in demand all the innovatory solutions of Tetra Pak. Among the novelties which will appear on the Russian market in 2006 — the pasteboard packing Tetra Recart for any products (from condensed milk up to stewed meat and preserved fish), the pasteboard bottle with plastic top Tetra Aptiva Aseptic and the packing with beveled triangular top for more handy pouring Tetra Gemina Aseptic. This company will also present the new packing line Tetra Pak A3/Speed which can produce 15 thousand packages an hour.
